Generac is a Wisconsin based $1.8 billion market-leading manufacturing company that builds quality power products that positively impacts the lives of our customers.  We design, create and build our products right here in Wisconsin! Our Waukesha, WI facility has Engineering Technician opportunities available on the 2nd shift.  The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical, engine and environmental tests of current and new product designs under close supervision. This individual will also be responsible for conducting continuous improvement activities to reduce the potential for product defects.

    Responsibilities

    • Setup test equipment and products in proper sequence per testing procedures.
    • Perform tests on prototypes, existing, and competitor products for stated criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental, and electromechanical functions through ISO 17025 and Laboratory Scope of Operations.
    • Use various mechanical, electrical, and electronic measurement devices.
    • Accurately interpret and document scientific notation, temperature, pressure, and other measurements.
    • Assist in the assembly and fabrication of prototype products per blueprint specifications and assists in developing follow up documentation.
    • Follow guidelines for bill of materials
    • Maintain test-related documentation in database environment.
    • Prepare formal and informal test reports
    • Support manufacturing through troubleshooting activities.
    • Assist in assembly and implementation of test equipment.
    • Actively participate with fellow Lab team members in daily maintenance of Lab environment and preventive maintenance of Lab equipment.
    • Partner with fellow Lab team members to execute projects and assist where necessary.
    • Assist with the Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and organization 5S programs.
    • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures supporting the continuous improvement of the Engineering Lab.

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

     

    • HS Diploma or Equivalent
    • 2 years of work experience in mechanical, electrical and/or electronic production shop
    • Provide own basic set of tools

    Additional Qualifications:

    • Experience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometers
    • Experience welding, shaping sheet metal, mill or turning (dependent on lab location).
    • Experience managing projects or participating in project teams
    • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
    • Able to work non-standard or extended work hours when necessary
    • Demonstrate self-motivation
    • Complete projects within guidelines
    • Work effectively in a fast-pace, team environment
    • Communicate effectively though written and oral means
    • Demonstrate aptitude to lead and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
    • Understand basic electrical techniques and theories
    • Demonstrate testing competence as required per ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations
