    Generac Power Systems – Work with the leader in the power industry! Our office in Waukesha, WI is seeking a NPI Specialist.

    The Senior New Product Introduction (NPI) Specialist is responsible for project management with regards to the new product materials (RFQ, Tooling, PPAP, and Transfer) for the NPI products. Additionally, this position partners with members of the Strategic Global Sourcing team and participates in cross-function collaboration regularly. This role also works on sustaining end of life product changes that may have an impact on material product costs.


    This position reports to the Director, New Product Introduction Sourcing


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Negotiate supplier recovery;
    • Manage and lead the PPAP process and ensure timeliness of delivery and accuracy of documentation in accordance with company policy;       
    • Negotiate with suppliers for total cost of ownership for parts and tooling, and project timelines;
    • Develop the supplier agreements in line with the commodity team to mitigate supply chain interruption, as well as, prepare capacity planning for seasonal product lines;
    • Lead and support MPM's for NPI related ECO’s and sustaining ECO’s that affect new part changes related to the 3 year product plan, as well as, develop report outs;
    • Ownership of the process to transfer material purchasing responsibility once the new parts have approved PPAP status, as well as, develop reporting that tracks and measures timeliness of the transfer and communication to the operations and project team members;
    • Manage tactical purchasing activities such as expediting material, PG orders, past due PO’s, open PO’s, PO confirmations, Receiving/Purchasing related issues, IFM Accounting/Purchasing related issues, etc.;
    • Maintain and lead the standard costs updates within the system during the NPI project and sustaining of new parts phase, as well as, being able to identify cost roles and changes to standards on top model tracking;
    • Conduct and facilitate technical design reviews with suppliers in order to confirm functionality of the part / component and manufacturability;
    • Assist the SGS MPM with the sourcing of new suppliers for new or existing products, as well as, support supplier escalations through the Operations for quality, cost, and delivery issues;
    • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop staff;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field OR equivalent experience;
    • Five years of global purchasing/sourcing experience; 

     Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
    • Experience working in the development cycle of new products;
    • Ability to lead medium sized or multiple small projects with minimal oversight;
    • Subject matter expert in supply chain related functions (cost, negotiation, logistics, etc.);
    • Proven experience with cost model, make vs. buy analysis, industry tools and market intelligence to improve supply performance;
    • Proven ability to identify, qualify, and partner with capable suppliers in various different commodities;
    • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives to develop and implement process improvements;
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and analyze project timelines and determine key milestones related to NPI sourcing activities;
    • Demonstrated ability to develop complex international supply chains and cultural awareness;
    • Demonstrated ability to routinely provide substitutions/alternatives (material, design, manufacturing) during the development phase in order to reduce cost;
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence cross-functional team members in order to achieve project goals and objectives;
    • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate and lead conversations with senior level management (both GPS and at Supplier);
    • Expert level critical thinking skill set with a demonstrated ability to think outside of the box;
    • Previous experience working in SAP or equivalent ERP;
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; 

    Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.  The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Travel up to 10% of the time.
