    Generac Power Systems – Work with the leader in the power industry! Our office in Waukesha, WI is seeking a Senior Engineer, Power Electronics for our Advance Commercial Technology (R&D)Team.

     

    This Senior Engineer will be involved in the evaluation and development of new technologies that support our diverse product line as well as the design, development and validation of electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical systems and components.  This person will translate new features and technology into system level requirements and contribute to the development of our future product strategies. 

     

    This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Develop, design and evaluate new technologies and identify new applications for existing technologies
    • Design, develop and evaluate Power Converters (DC-DC and inverters)
    • Define advance electrical system requirements and test procedures
    • Maintain knowledge of the current technical state and new innovations relative to power electronics
    • Contribute to the development of our future product roadmaps and strategies
    • Conduct Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA and Design Reviews
    • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize complex and advanced designs for manufacturability 
    • Act as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

     

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering 
    • 5 years of relevant work experience or advanced degree equivalency in Electrical Engineering
    • Experience with Matlab Simulink
    • Experience with designing analog/digital circuitry.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Experience with power generation products
    • Experience in design of industrial/automotive electronic control systems and assemblies
    • Familiarity with simulation software such as P-Spice and Mentor Graphics Hyperlynx.
    • Communication protocol/ hardware interface knowledge: RS232, RS485, CAN, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, Flash, EEPROM, ADC/DAC and WiFi/Bluetooth
    • Experience with design to meet agency compliance such as UL, CSA, NEC, CE, FCC, NFPA and EPA
    • Experience with Agile software development practices and tools

    Skills Desired:

    • Ability to solve complex engineering problems
    • Strong decision-making skills
    • MS Excel, MS Word
    • Excellent oral and written communication

     


    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
