  • Overview

    The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Intern will assist the Whitwater EHS Department in a variety of environmental and safety functions.  This includes: assisting with various tasks in EHS focused software, such as MSDSOnline (Globally Harmonized System, HAZCOM, chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) software, and an EHS Management System software, as well as the internal SharePoint site. The intern will also help manage EHS data and monthly metric calculations, assisting with the internal EHS auditing program, compiling the EHS Performance Metrics dashboard, preparing environmental plans and reports, assisting with EHS training, creating and modifying work instructions, programs, and other documents, regulatory research, assisting with tracking of safety hazards at the sites, and other related functions.   This position will be based out of the Whitewater facility but may need to work closely with cross-functional teams at other facilities.


    • This position provides environmental, health, and safety (EHS) assistance at the Corporate office and other Generac facilities.
    • Assists with the planning, training, inspection, reporting and recordkeeping requirements for all environmental and safety compliance programs.
    • Assists with audits to be used to ensure that consistent, best-in-class results and compliance are followed to enable operational excellence. Prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
    • Assists with the facility SDS/Hazard Communication program.
    • Assists with incidents investigations (including near misses, releases, and losses) to determine root causes and prepares/directs corrective and preventive action plans.
    • Comfortable working with small groups and presenting information to others.

    Position requires a degree of independence.  Person must be proactive in promoting adherence to regulatory requirements and laws that pertain to our business




    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program with an emphasis in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering/Science, or related field.
    • Field of study (preferably Occupational Safety or Environmental Engineering/Science).
    • Language Capability:  Fluent Verbal/Written English Language and regional language proficiency.
    • Some understanding of OSHA, EPA, WDNR, DOT, and local requirements.
    • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and other EHS programs and guidelines (LOTO, Ergonomics, Machine Guarding, Storm water as examples).
    • Demonstrates relentless drive and determination to achieve success.
    • Professional mannerisms and personal maturity.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong problem solving skills; the ability to ask the right questions, help frame logical conclusions and arrive at effective solutions.
    • Strong verbal and written communication competencies.
    • Microsoft Word & Excel experience.

    Ability to work full-time during the summer.
