    Generac Power Systems – Work with the global leader in the power industry! Our Home Standby Generator team within the Consumer Power business group, located at our Corporate HQ in Waukesha, WI, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer.


    The Senior Design Engineer for our industry-leading Home Standby group is responsible for leading design engineering and documentation activities of the projects assigned to him/her including interfacing with the cross functional team consisting of engineering, operations (industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service, and marketing.



    This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor.


    Key Result Areas:

    • Create Specifications and Technical Documentation
    • Detailed Design Analysis
    • Research on existing materials and manufacturing processes
    • Planning and Organizing for on time project delivery

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, and integrates a variety of moderately complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
    • Performs engineering analysis of major systems and components to ensure proper function.
    • Provides support for design related activities generated by warranty, development and test, purchasing and manufacturing.
    • Responsible for the completion and release of the engineering documentation such as CAD drawings, and assembly instructions for complex machinery and assembly.
    • Conducts and documents calculations and analyses including but not limited to, tolerance analysis, static & dynamic structural analysis, and NVH optimization studies.
    • Conducts DFMEA and be a major contributor to PFMEA activity.
    • Works closely with the development and test resources to follow the validation status of components and systems designed.
    • Collaborates closely with strategic global sourcing through the creation of statement of requirements (SOR). Work with vendors, sourcing and quality to ensure the specification of the components is met. Interfaces with the supplier to implement their input in the final component design.
    • Supports product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)
    • Mentors and coordinates other less experienced members of the team as necessary.
    • Travel to other Generac facilities and vendor sites as necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline;
    • 5 - 10 years of relevant work experience;
    • Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes;
    • Able to solve complex engineering problems;
    • Strong decision-making skills
    • Technical Skills to include 3D modeling (Creo)
    • Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Experience with machine design;
    • Previous experience with SAP or equivalent ERP

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • FEA (Creo Simulate or ANSYS);
    • Experience with GD&T and statistical stack up of tolerances;
    • Knowledgeable in manufacturing techniques for Sheet metal and plastic components;
    • Great ability to work in a dynamic environment and strong tolerance for ambiguity.
