    Generac Power Systems – Work with the leader in the power industry! Our Corporate HQ in Waukesha, WI is seeking a Senior Test Engineer.


    The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for designing quality/reliability tests and developing testing procedures for planning and implementation of advanced electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests on new and existing product designs; Contributes to the development and/or improvement of product designs using creativity and broad experience.  Designs, plans, and specifies fabrication and procurement of laboratory fixtures and test equipment.  Reports to the Engineering Supervisor.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assign projects and train testing setups to Lab Technicians and Sr. Lab Technicians.
    • Provide laboratory leadership in new product development teams to influence product improvements and creation of test plans.
    • Maintain test-related new product and current product laboratory documentation in database environment.
    • Design test plans for testing on prototypes, existing, and competitor products.
    • Support the design, procurement, planning, assembly, and implementation of test equipment.
    • Perform tests and setup test equipment for stated criteria, involving mechanical, electrical, environment, and electromechanical functions.
    • Analyze test data and participate with design Engineers in test methods and product analysis.
    • Prepare laboratory testing methods and demonstrate testing competence per ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.
    • Mentor laboratory team on Continuous Improvement, Reliability concepts, Reliability techniques, and Reliability data collection and use.
    • May lead efforts in support of the Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and Organization (5S) programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline;
    • 5 - 10 years of relevant work experience;
    • Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes;
    • Able to solve complex engineering problems;
    • Strong decision-making skills;
    • MS Excel, MS Word
    • Excellent oral and written communication;
    • Experience leading and developing test process, design and analysis.
    • Knowledge of Data Acquisition Systems (Labview knowledge a plus)


    Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.  The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
