Overview

Generac Power Systems – Work with the leader in the power industry! Our office in Waukesha, WI is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Advance Commercial Technology Team.

 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer: Advance Commercial Technology will be involved in the early evaluation and development of new technologies that support our diverse product line.  The Senior Mechanical Engineer will develop, design and evaluate new technologies relative to mechanical and electro-mechanical components and systems. This person will create technology roadmaps and contribute to the development of our future product strategies.

 

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, design and evaluate new technologies and identify new applications for existing technologies. 
  • Provide Mechanical Engineering support to the Advance Engineering Team including: structural design, material selection, thermal management and noise abatement.
  • Utilize CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings. 
  • Maintain knowledge of the current technical state and new innovations relative to material science, noise abatement and thermal management. 
  • Create advance mechanical component and system requirements and test procedures.
  • Create and maintain technology roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the development of our future product roadmaps and strategies
  • Conduct Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA and Design Reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize moderately complex designs for manufacturability. 
  • Act as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant work experience. 
  • 3 or more years of experience in structural design and/or thermal management.
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Technical skills to include 3D modeling (ProE/Creo or SolidWorks);
  • MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Experience with machine design.

Additional Skills Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3 or more years of experience with CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings. 
  • Experience with power generation products.
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced materials.
  • Knowledge and experience in noise abatement techniques.
  • Experience with internal combustion engine combustion process.

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
