Overview

Generac Power Systems – Work with the leader in the power industry! Our office in Waukesha, WI is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer for our Advance Commercial Technology Team.

 

The Staff Systems Engineer: Advance Commercial Technology will be involved in the early evaluation and development of new technologies that support our diverse product line.  The Staff Systems Engineer will design, develop and validate electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical systems and components.  This person will translate new features and technology into system level requirements and contribute to the development of our future product strategies. 

 

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop, design and evaluate new technologies and identify new applications for existing technologies.
  • Translate new features and technology into system level requirements to support the early evaluation, development, design and validation processes.
  • Create advance electrical, electro-mechanical and mechanical system and component specifications and test procedures.
  • Design and develop circuit board level hardware and supervise PCB layout.
  • Create new algorithms, embedded software, software specifications and testing specifications.
  • Create PC based testing tools.
  • Maintain knowledge of the current technical state and new innovations relative to power electronics. 
  • Create and maintain technology roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the development of our future product roadmaps and strategies
  • Conduct Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA and Design Reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize complex and advanced designs for manufacturability. 
  • Support product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
  • Act as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10 + years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Matlab Simulink.
  • Experience with designing analog/digital circuitry.
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • MS Excel, MS Word.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electronics, or related discipline.
  • Experience with power generation products.
  • Experience in design of industrial/automotive electronic control systems and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with simulation software such as P-Spice and Mentor Graphics Hyperlynx.
  • Communication protocol/ hardware interface knowledge, such as RS232, RS485, CAN, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, Flash, EEPROM, ADC/DAC and WiFi/Bluetooth.
  • Design to meet agency compliance such as UL, CSA, NEC, CE, FCC, NFPA and EPA.
  • Experience with Agile software development practices and tools.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
